Snowmen At Night Writing Activity
Even though there is a lot to celebrate and be thankful for in November and Dec, I still love sharing my favorite books with you.
My husband might tell you I have a volume problem, but I say I just take lots of options when it comes to story time.
Jan is kind of sad because I accept to put away all of the Christmas books.
Just Jan is too really awesome because at present it's winter and now we can pull out a lot of historical readers, like books about Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Presidents! So really, it isn't that bad. 🙂
January books are so much fun, and this volume is definitely one of my favorites!
I'yard certain you and your students accept wondered what snowmen practise at night while we are sleeping. Well, they're pretty magical! That's why I chose the beautifully written and illustrated book, Snowmen at Night.
If you'd similar to add this book to your classroom library, you can find the book hither:
Last month Laura shared Snowmen at Christmas with you. You tin can read well-nigh how she uses that book in her classroom hither.
When we read the story, we utilise the adapted piece book set. We read the story first in whole group, typically on a Monday, and so the remainder of the calendar week we will bring the adapted piece volume set in during Guided Reading or in centers.
The adapted books make it home in Reading Toolkits too.
You tin find Snowmen at Night in January's set, and Snowmen at Christmas can be found in Dec'due south set.
Past January, nosotros've already read Snowmen at Christmas. And so after reading Snowmen at Nighttime, this gives us the opportunity to compare and dissimilarity the ii stories.
What do snowmen do differently around Christmas than they do on any other night? Or do they exercise the same matter?
I will project the graphic organizer on the front lath and fill up it in as students piece of work on information technology at their desks.
My higher level students help me write on the graphic organizer on the lath, and can so copy the data down on their ain papers. For my students who write, they can copy right from the board.
My lower level students volition use the adapted piece book set reply pieces to fill in their answers. I just impress them answer pieces out, pre-cut the answers they volition need, and have them available during the lesson.
It's a nifty activity to practice paw-centre coordination, plus they become to encounter other students modeling how to write. For my lower level students, I will also write it for them and then we will hand-over-hand trace the words.
{ Take hold of the graphic organizer for costless here. }
Since I live in Texas, and it *rarely* snows here around Houston, my students have a hard fourth dimension imagining snow. I hateful, they've seen information technology on TV and in movies, they know what it is, and some of them may have taken a vacation skiing up North… but for the most role, information technology's non a "normal" part of our winter.
So that means this makes our snow experiments fifty-fifty more special! And because this book is about snowmen, we tin can contain some really fun activities into the story time!
Like making borax snowflakes! You lot but need viii ingredients (with an optional ninth ingredient) and information technology's super simple. Simply follow Embracing Homemaking'south film how to guide in your classroom.
If there is time, or y'all employ the borax snowflakes during some other lesson yous've already got planned out, try making snow!
There are lots of "make your own snow" recipes that y'all tin find on Pinterest, but this one uses baking soda, shaving cream, and lavander oil. Information technology seems like a lot of fun and I can't wait to make information technology with my kids. I think they're going to admittedly love information technology, and and so will yours!
